North Carolina author Dr. Reid Gilbert will visit The Arts Place on Sunday, May 6th to present his latest book, “Stories Tell What Can’t be Told: My Story.”
Dr. E. Reid Gilbert grew up in Forsyth County, North Carolina, obtaining academic degrees from Brevard College and Duke University before leaving the state and earning degrees from three more institutions, culminating in a PhD in Asian Theatre from the University of Wisconsin. He served several years in the Methodist and Unitarian ministries. Pursuing his interest in the arts, he studied and taught mime and was Administrator of the International Mimes and Pantomimists. His involvement in theatre has included acting, directing and playwriting. For ten years he was Artistic Director of the Valley Ridge Theatre in Thomas, West Virginia. He also taught theatre in several colleges and retired as Professor-Emeritus of Ohio State University. He is a member of the National Theatre Conference. His honors include two Fulbright Awards to India and Thailand, and Distinguished Alumnus of Brevard College. In recent years he has devoted his energies to writing, including works such as “Trixter Jack”, “Shall We Gather at the River”, “What Matters”, “The Twelve Houses of My Childhood”, and most recently “Stories Tell What Can’t Be Told: My Story.”
