Sauratown Players Interest Meeting

A new performing arts group honoring the Stokes County Arts Council’s history of theatre is looking for members to energize and expand the dramatic arts in Stokes County.

For many years, the Once Upon A Time Players and Sauratown Players organized and presented high quality theatrical performances as part of the Stokes County Arts Council.  “I often hear long-time supporters of Stokes Arts reminisce about productions such as “The King and I”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, Cinderella”, and others” stated Arts Council Director Eddy McGee.  “With the completion of The Arts Place performance space, we think the time is now to organize a community group dedicated to providing theatre arts opportunities for the present and next generation of artists” he added.

More than the acting company, a community theatre group is  a family of creative, active, dedicated people with a variety of skills and talents, coming together to honor one of the world’s oldest and most venerated art forms.

“We’re seeking actors, especially adults, or teens who could play adult roles. We also need LOTS of backstage personnel. Even if you don’t want to act, consider joining us to help build sets, gather props, make/gather costumes, stage manage, operate lights and/or sound, be part of the backstage crew during performances, run the box office or work in publicity. Everyone is important!” said Brack Llewellyn, who is working in partnership with the Stokes County Arts Council in creating the new group.

“Experience is welcome but not required. If you love to dance, are an aspiring playwright or visual artist, the Players have a place for you, be it onstage leading cast members in choreography or off stage producing and designing sets.” said Llewellyn.

The Sauratown Players will be holding an interest meeting on Thursday, November 1st at 7:00 p.m. at The Arts Place, located at 502 Main Street, Danbury.  For more information, contact Stokes Arts at 336-593-8159.
