Stokes Junior Mountain Music Recital

For the past five months, students ages 8-12 have been learning traditional instruments such as guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and bass in classes across Stokes County. They are part of a new music program being offered by the Stokes County Arts Council named Stokes Junior Mountain Music.

The program, funded in partnership with the North Carolina Arts Council, offers low cost group music instruction to 3rd, 4th, and 5thgrade students in Stokes County. Lessons are held on a weekly basis at The Arts Place of Stokes and Mount Olive Elementary.

“Access to music instruction, especially on traditional instruments, can be costly and there are limited places to receive that instruction in Stokes County.  The Junior Mountain Music program gives the students a chance to join a group full of kids just like them who are just getting started with learning an instrument.” said Felicia Shaw, Program Coordinator.

The Stokes Junior Mountain Musicians will be performing for the public, family, and friends this Friday, May 31st.  The recital begins at 6:30 p.m. at The Arts Place of Stokes, 502 Main Street, Danbury.  This is a free event.
